Sugarloaf Pass is a small, little-known, but quite beautiful track near Glenorchy. It starts from the same place as the famous Routeburn Track. There are almost no people here, and from the top of the pass views open up over the Rockburn valley, and if you climb a little higher, over Mount Earnslaw and Lake Wakatipu too.

GETTING THERE

The track starts from the Routeburn Track car park, about an hour and a half from Queenstown via Glenorchy. The last 10 km of road is a pleasant gravel drive along the Dart River.

This is the start of one of the country's most famous multi-day tracks, so in season the car park can be full.
